Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior representative stated the incident left him speechless and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
